Jakkie Cilliers, onderzoeker aan het Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Zuid Afrika, gaf onlangs een presentatie over zijn boek 'Africa First!' en de achterliggende analyses, tijdens de NEDWORC Nieuwjaars Netwerkdag. Eerder al was er een presentatie bij DGIS in Den Haag. Gezien het succes van beide bijeenkomsten en het belang van de discussie wordt een herhaling georganiseerd op donderdagmiddag 18 februari van 14:00-15:30 uur (NL tijd) voor mensen die er destijds niet bij konden zijn.

Over de presentatie
"AfricaFirst!, written by Jakkie Cilliers, takes an honest look at where Africa stands today and where it may go over the next decades. If Africa proceeds along the current path, Jakkie argues, poverty and underdevelopment will continue to prevail and the gap between Africa and the rest of the world will increase even further. Therefore, Jakkie presents in his book a number of daring yet attainable scenario’s in a variety of fields which, if implemented with care and rigour, will enhance conditions on the continent in a dramatic way. These fields include agriculture, health, education infrastructure, energy, the business climate, governance and peace and security."

Aan deze presentatie en discussie op 18 februari zullen naast NEDWORC-leden ook medewerkers van het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken (en de ambassades in Afrika), het Afrika Studie Centrum Leiden, Instituut Clingendael, het Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) en het European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) deelnemen.
